Under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Information, the Directorate of Culture and National Heritage, in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy, is sponsoring an exhibition entitled Picturing America at the Bahrain National Museum opening on Saturday, January 16th at 7:00 p.m. till February 4th.

“Picturing America showcases more than forty images of significant American art by well-known American painters, sculptors, photographers, and architects. The exhibition highlights the United States’ artistic heritage and offers unique insights into the country’s character, ideals, and aspirations.

“Picturing America's images span several centuries and feature artists including early American Indian artisans, painters Mary Cassatt and Thomas Hart Benton, photographers Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange, and architects Frank Lloyd Wright and William Van Alen.
Two American educators from the National Children’s Museum based in Washington, DC and an art educator from the National Endowment of Humanities will visit Bahrain in January to provide art education programs for Bahrainis. They will organize a series of workshops for art and history students, art educators, artists and teachers and offer interpretive tours to the public and selected groups.

In February 2008, the U.S. National Endowment of Humanities launched Picturing America to expose audiences to American history and provide them with a gateway to the broader world of the humanities.
Children, Teachers, Artists and interested audience are invited to visit this fascinating exhibition, attend workshops and lectures to be held daily from January 17th to February 4th ,2010 ,from 8am to 8pm at Bahrain National Museum .
